Fairhope is a city in Baldwin County, Alabama, on a sloping plateau, along the cliffs and shoreline of Mobile Bay. In 1894, Fairhope was established by a group of adventurous people who came together with a "fair hope of success". Their experimental community blossomed and grew into a city. Now, more than 100 years later, Fairhope's "success" is more than apparent in our bustling downtown, spacious parks, and tree-shaded neighborhoods. Its not a big city - in fact, Fairhope still retains much of its original small-town ambiance, but Fairhope is unique in many ways. Fairhope is known for its active arts community, exceptional schools, outstanding public services, excellent senior services, and top-notch recreational programs for all ages. Fairhope is a great hometown for all ages - and newcomers are always welcomed.
Weeks Bay Weeks Bay is part of the National Estuarine Research Reserve and is a nationally protected estuary. It is amazing because of the tight regulations, it is one of the last beautiful undeveloped wetlands in the US. Great fishing, crabbing, paddling, and the Weeks Bay Interpretive Center and Pitcher Plant Bog are must sees!
People really like going to see the Alabama Battleship which is a park that has an aircraft pavilion with lots of different planes, submarines, and the battleship and that's a fun thing for adults to do. There is live entertainment at either the Blue Gill or the Beach House. You can come to the mini shops in Fairhope. People love going to the restaurants and listening to live entertainment. The most unique thing about Fairhope is its art galleries. It has drawn artists from many, many decades and we have art galleries in town and at the Eastern Shore Art Center. You can come downtown, which is only a walk away, and come to various different galleries downtown and view the paintings and other creative works of the artists in the community. The Ravenite and Colony Grill and a host of others are in that area. There are no nightclubs in Fairhope. Mostly it's all restaurants with bars and of course at the Grand Hotel they have the Birdcage which has a nice cocktail hour. The pier itself is a destination. It's over 1000 feet long and it's the longest pier in the lower Alabama area. The Fairhope Municipal Pier is a wonderful place to stroll and watch the sunset. We have an estuary that is in the Southern Alabama bay and it has boardwalks throughout the estuary. You can walk and look at the trees and see the wildlife. You go all the way to the bay. This is definitely a walkable community and people really enjoy that more than anything. You can go to the bay anytime of the day or night, practically. You see people there biking, walking, strolling, and walking their dogs. I mean it's almost nonstop; music and entertainment is the thing. I mean everybody loves the live entertainment in the restaurants and the music festivals. If you're staying just in Fairhope you won't need a rental car. But in order to get back and forth to the other communities, you will probably need your own transportation. That's Fairhope's; it doesn't have pubic transportation.
