Orange Beach Vacation Rentals by Owner
Orange Beach is a city in Baldwin County, in the Gulf Coast region of Alabama. Orange Beach got its name from the large abundance of orange trees. The Spanish brought with them lime and lemon trees. Pirates had often liked to hide behind Ono Island to hide their treasure and scrape off barnacles so their boats could easily move through the water. It also came in handy when they started getting scurvy, which is a lack of Vitamin C, and the oranges helped them out. Then, in 1928, a winter came and froze all the orange trees, making people question where Orange Beach got its name from.
When it comes to finding great Alabama beaches, Orange Beach is one of the state's top destinations. Found on the southern coast of the state, Orange Beach Alabama fronts the Gulf of Mexico, and the long beach here attracts thousands of visitors every year. When you're not spending time on the soft, white sand beach, Orange Beach vacations can include a number of fun pursuits, from fishing to flying, and the wealth of area attractions means that you'll have a difficult time getting bored. Spending time outdoors is the focus of most Orange Beach vacations, and when you're not out combing the beach or cruising around Mobile Bay, you can always head to Gulf State Park for some outdoor recreation. A great place for camping, hiking, and fishing, the Gulf State Park also boasts an 18-hole golf course. In addition to campsites, the park also offers cabins and cottages that you can consider renting, so you're not limited to the hotels when looking for a place to stay.
Some unique shops figure among the overall attractions in Orange Beach, so shopping is definitely something that you can enjoy when in town. The art galleries here are great places to look for a special keepsake that you can proudly display at home, and among the top places to admire some art is the Orange Beach Art Center. If shopping isn't exactly your thing, hitting a local museum might pique your interest. You can learn all about Orange Beach history and about the town's fishing industry at the Orange Beach Indian and Sea Museum. This interesting museum is closed on Sundays and Mondays, but you can visit it every other day of the week. Easily one of the top attractions in Orange Beach, the Indian and Sea Museum is not to be missed if you can help it.
Orange Beach vacations can be very busy or they can be very laid-back, and it's up to you how you ultimately want to spend your time. While a fairly quiet destination most of the year, Orange Beach livens up during late January and early February. This is when the Alabama Mardi Gras is in full swing, and Orange Beach is one of the top places to enjoy it. Mobile gets most of the attention when it comes to the Alabama Mardi Gras, but both Orange Beach and Gulf Shores do well to offer festivities that are hard to fault as well. When Mardi Gras isn't taking place, those seeking some extra excitement can always enjoy Biloxi casino trips on the side as they please. If gambling isn't your thing, area tours are something that might interest you.
The overall attractions in Orange Beach itself might be somewhat limited, but there's so much to enjoy in the general area that you will likely find it hard to fit everything in. Orange Beach vacations have something for everybody. You can even book plane and hot air balloon tours here, so the sky is virtually the limit when it comes to finding fun things to do.
