Wheeler Lake Vacation Rentals by Owner

Wheeler Lake is located in the northern part of the United States state of Alabama, between Rogersville and Huntsville. Created by Wheeler Dam along the Tennessee River, it stretches 60 miles (96.5 km) from Wheeler Dam to Guntersville Dam. It is Alabama's second largest lake at 67,100 acres (272 kmē). Wheeler Lake is also bordered by Wilson Lake on its downstream side. The lake was constructed by the Tennessee Valley Authority just prior to World War II as a means of hydroelectric generation and flood control, as well as to facilitate navigation along the Tennessee River. Today the lake is mostly popular for recreation purposes and barge traffic. The name of this impoundment comes from Civil War general Joseph 'Fightin' Joe Wheeler, who frequented the area during the war and later returned to the area to live.

Joe Wheeler State Park, located on Wheeler Lake, offers something for everyone; a resort lodge, a restaurant, cabins, camping, fishing, golf, tennis, swimming, convention/banquet facilities, transient slips and a marina.

Chartered lake cruises are available for small groups along the spectacular natural shoreline of Joe Wheeler State Park and the lower section of Wheeler Lake in beautiful North Alabama. Civic clubs, businesses, seniors, church groups, wildlife enthusiasts, family reunions, etc. find cruising along the scenic coves and bluffs aboard the 36' Nautical Wheeler to be the perfect outing for their group.
